John Brown's Cave Reading and Community Storytelling September 26

I will be reading and hosting a community storytelling event at the Mayhew Cabin in Nebraska City, NE, at 6:30 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

In my novel BRAVE IN SEASON I imagine what it might have been like for itinerant Black railroad workers to come upon the touristy version of the place that we knew as John Brown's Cave in the 1950s. I will read that section, and then invite community members to share memories of John Brown's Cave from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Locals are invited to bring items from the extensive souvenir shop of that era.

The event is free to the public with free will offerings encouraged to support the work of of the Mayhew Cabin Foundation for the preservation of Nebraska's first Underground Railroad historical site.

Copies of Brave in Season, an uplifting Nebraska City novel based in historical fact, will be available for sale, and I will be happy to sign them. Book profits will be donated to the Mayhew Cabin Foundation.
